Hey Sis,

We know why you're here. You want to look good and feel good right? Well listen up..

The key to looking good and feeling good is not what about what you have on, how much money you have in your bank account, or even the hair on your head. I mean it helps, but there's much more to it. It’s how you feel about yourself, your decisions, and the confidence in your decisions. When these align, you shine from within.

Because we know this and we want you to feel your best, we've decided to share a how to tips and tricks page, with some extra information you normally wouldn't be able to attain from hair websites about the hair you’re buying. This will give you the confidence you need to make the best purchase. We want to help SET, SMASH, and SLAY your hair goals from purchase to wear.

So, if you’re a hair connoisseur, Congrats! You got this. If not and you feel you need a little help deciding or maintaining your hair after your purchase...keep reading sis, we got you.

Yours Truly,
Dauntess

LEAVE OUT, CLOSURES, & EDGES

LEAVE OUT..WHAT'S THAT ?
A leave out is a portion hair left out of the hair installation which lays over your tracks (wefts) and allows for a more natural look avoiding and minimizing track exposure.

HOW TO “LEAVE OUT”
It is important you pick a hair texture / curl pattern which will compliment you best. You know your hair. If your hair is frizzy but straight, getting the Curly Sultress to blend will require more work. If your hair is extremely curly and resistant to sleek styles, having a leave out with the Straight Huntress is probably not the best option. But no need to worry, if your hair doesn’t match the look you want to achieve our Silk closures will help do so.

LEAVE OUT WHERE ?
The key to a flawless leave out is to first pick the texture that compliments your hair best, then simply implement / consider the following for maximum slay.
  1. Pick a texture that matches. For slightly coarser hair textures with sleeker styles, a silk press can be considered to help blend your hair.
  2. Remember your leave out needs TLC. This is your hair. To avoid product build up on your leave out which creates the heavier non-flowy feel on top of your install, try washing and deep conditioning your leave out weekly. Because you will flat iron, style, and use more product / heat  on your hair to maintain your style, your leave out will require more moisture than usual. Do not neglect your hair. Use your favorite serums, conditioners, and products to help you accomplish this.
  3. For loose waves, flat iron curls are best as they will create the curl to match the loose body wave in its natural state or in a more full and glamorous hollywood look.

NEED CLOSURE ? WE GOT IT.
WHAT’S A CLOSURE?
Closures are hair pieces made with a silk or lace base. The hair is individually attached to the silk or lace closure creating a very natural almost undetectable look which is then sewn to the crown of your head in place of where the leave out would have naturally been. The closure is placed close to your hairline to elude the most natural blend possible and avoid demarcation. Closures can come in several different curl patterns, textures, and lengths to achieve your goal.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SILK CLOSURE AND A LACE CLOSURE ?
While some may argue Silk Closures are better than Lace Closures, the truth is it all comes down to personal preference.
    • Lace Closures: are made of lace and allow your scalp and hair to breathe more freely. The lace closures come in a neutral skin tone which can be bleached or dyed to match the color of your scalp and hair. While the process is simple, one wrong move could potentially ruin your closure. Get professional help if necessary.
    • Silk Closures: are hair pieces where the hair is individually attached to a silk base creating the most natural appearance. Because silk is thicker than lace, it is less porous but provides an optimal natural look and requires less blending techniques (bleaching , dying, etc) if any at all.

HOW ARE CLOSURES MAINTAINED ?
Because a closure is sewn to the crown of your head, eventually it will begin to lose its fresh look as your braids begin to loosen and the closure slides out of place causing demarcation. Considering this, please understand the texture of your hair, rate of growth, and coarseness will determine how long your ‘do will maintain your preferred look.
If you prefer minimal maintenance…ready, set, go! Your closure will maintain itself as long as you treat it with regular tender love and care.
If you wish to maintain a full on glam look, schedule a follow up visit with your stylist to tighten your closure. If you have an active lifestyle you may want to schedule a 2-week post visit.

MAINTAINING YOUR DAUNTESS BUNDLES
Now that you know how to maintain the install of a closure, the rest is pretty simple…treat it as you would your own. Remember, the hair is 100% Virgin Hair – it needs the same precautions you’d take with your own hair such as not abusing it with heat  and treating it with TLC.

WASHING & CONDITIONING
    1. Grab your Dauntess extensions and align them so they all face the same direction and wrap them around each other. If your hair is in different lengths, bundle them accordingly.
    2. Once you have them bundled together, wrap them with a hair tie - this will help you keep the hair intact while you wash and condition your bundles.
    3. Next, use your fingers if possible, a wig brush, or large tooth comb to comb the hair.
      • Curly hair: Finger comb hair from the ends to the top. Avoid using a comb or brush to maximize the life of the curls.
      • Straighter: Comb with a large tooth comb or wig brush from bottom to top.
    4. Now run them under lukewarm to cooler water to wet them. Then lather your bundles with a silver sized dollop of sulfate-free, paraben free shampoo to wash them (or more, your preference). Feel free to repeat and be sure to rinse out thoroughly after shampooing.

    5.  Now that your hair has been washed, repeat the process with a similar sulfate-free, paraben free conditioner. Thoroughly apply the product evenly throughout the hair and let sit for a few minutes.

    6.  After your desired conditioning time, rinse out the conditioner thoroughly under lukewarm  to cool water. Avoid leaving residue. It is important to rinse it out well so hair extensions don’t dry to feel filmy.

    7.  Once hair extensions are rinsed out entirely, pat dry with a towel. Never rub the hair dry as it will damage the texture and tangle it.

    8. You can let hair dry on top of the towel or use a hanger to hang the extensions to dry.

    9.  You can spray some live-in conditioner prior to drying but it is not necessary.

Please feel free to follow the same procedure for your natural hair. Stay away from products with sulfate and parabens as they dry and damage your hair and always pat dry your hair (not rub) with a towel or t-shirt (this is better).

STYLING
If you're looking to wear your hair immediately, blot out excess water from the hair with a towel or t-shirt (t-shirts are better) and style accordingly.
BODY WAVES & CURLY STYLES
Wash and Wear with curly hair !
  • Wavy/Curly look hair use a spray bottle of water and a little leave in conditioner for a natural look.
  • Wet look, we suggest using your favorite go to mousse or leave and conditioner and water to achieve the look.

STRAIGHTER STYLES
Apply a heat protective serum of you choice and then proceed to blow dry the hair and style accordingly with thermal or ceramic hair styling tools. Most Hair Guru’s however, suggest allowing the hair to air dry and then styling it to your liking.
For more complex styling such as coloring, bleaching, cutting, and your install we highly recommend you consult with a professional stylist to achieve your look. Bleaching and processing hair will change the texture and in some cases damage the hair if not done properly as it would with your own hair. (Therefore we always suggest you consult your professional Hair Stylist). It will loosen or straighten a wave or curl pattern. Again we suggest hydrating, deep conditioning,  and moisturizing the hair immediately for at least 45mins.
If any hair texture is frizzy or dry you will need to deep condition the hair. The less heat the Healthier the Hair.

DAILY MAINTENANCE

Sleeping
NEVER SLEEP ON WET HAIR. Make sure your hair is completely dry before you go to bed. It is also recommended to wrap your hair together or gently tie it up to prevent tangling.
Use  a Silk hair scarf, Bonnet, and or Silk pillows to protect and maintain your hair.

Swimming & Exercise
Wash the hair immediately after swimming! When dirt, sand, chlorine, and sweat accumulate, hair is more likely to mat, tangle, and become unmanageable. Be sure to always wear a swim cap made of latex. We suggest putting the hair in two braids to ensure that all of the hair is protected and tucked neatly under the cap.
OK SO YOU SKIPPED THE LATEX CAP
  1. Lather your hair with a detangling conditioner (before washing)
  2. Carefully comb out any tangles that may be present starting from the bottom and working your way up.
  3. Be sure to take your time and use a conditioner that is sulfate free and has a detangling aid.
  4. Now that your hair is detangled you may wash. & Follow normal Shampooing Conditioning steps and give it some extra TLC with our hydrating tips.
